Our Demands
Tell the Truth
All institutions, including Government, Corporations and Media must tell the truth about how deadly our situation is. It must reverse all policies not in alignment with that position and must work alongside the media to communicate the urgency for change including what individuals, communities and businesses need to do.
Act Now
The Government must enact legally-binding policies to reduce carbon emissions in Canada to net zero by 2025 and take further action to remove the excess of atmospheric greenhouse gases. It must cooperate internationally so that the global economy runs on no more than half a planet’s worth of resources per year.
Decide Together
The Government must fund the creation of, and be led by, an independent People’s Assembly that is advised by Indigenous knowledge-keepers and other experts in climate, ecology, and social justice (who do not have a stake in continuing to emit GHGs). This Assembly must have the authority to decide on binding measures needed to guarantee a just and fair social, environmental, and economic transformation.
A Just Transformation
The response to the climate crisis must prioritize the rights and needs of those most affected, be actively decolonial, and support all workers affected by the transforming economy. Reparations must be made in Canada and globally and include payment of Canada’s carbon debt to the Global South.
